Eesti, Eesti...

Who knew working for free could be so much fun.

After my wife Päivi and I got married we donated our time on voluntary work in Estonia. Estonia had just gained freedom from Soviet Union neglect so situation there was somewhat chaotic and living conditions were not even close to European standards. This marked a time when Finland took a more active role as part of Scandinavia and cut most of it's economic ties with it's eastern neighbors. This resulted in a serious financial depression in Finland. Even though those times were financially challenging our time in Estonia was a happy time - a time when we made many new friends and relationships that endure to this day. Looking back on those days and pictures I see only smiling faces. In my mind that proved one thing. You can be happier working for free than working for money.
